Adoption Process

APPLICATION SUBMISSION

Ready to adopt? Our available cats can be found under the "adopt" tab in the top right corner! Find one that calls to your heart and submit an adoption application. Vet and landlord (if applicable) references are mandatory. If you do not currently have a veterinarian, please list the clinic you intend to use. If you do not have a veterinarian, we ask that you schedule a new-patient appointment within 14 days of adoption to ensure that your new furry friend has an established relationship with a veterinarian in case of an emergency. Please note that applying for a cat does not guarantee that you will be selected to adopt him/her, even if you are the only applicant. Furry Felines reserves the right to deny any applicant we feel may not be an ideal match for our cat(s). You must be 21+ and live within a 2 hour radius of Jeannette PA in order to adopt a cat.

Application Proccessing

Our volunteers will review your application and complete your vet/landlord references. Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. Once all applications have been reviewed, we will select the best match for the cat. You should expect to hear from us within 7 days.

Application Approval/Meet & Greet

Following approval, you have the opportunity to schedule a meet & greet with the cat(s) that you submitted adoption applications for. This can occur at the home of the foster parent, or at your home. If you fall in love, you have the option of a same-day adoption provided that you have the necessary supplies ready!

Pre-Adoption

Before you bring your new kitty home, you will need to gather supplies and set up an acclimation room (a smaller encolosed room without a ton of hiding places, such as a spare bedroom or bathroom). This space should include a litter box, food and water, some toys and/or a scratching post, and a comfy place to sleep. Your new cat will remain in this room until they are comfortable with you and their new environment (typically less than 2 weeks). Any other pets in the home should not have access to this room until your new cat has started settling in and is confident enough to begin introductions.

Adoption Day

[PARTY HORN SOUND EFFECTS] Congratulations, you have a new furry best friend! We'll make things official with an adoption contract. His/her adoption fee is due at this time. You will receive copies of any records pertaining to your new kitty, including his/her complete medical history.

Updates

If you do not have a current veterinarian and/or you adopted a kitten under 24 weeks of age, you will be asked to forward vet appointment records to Furry Felines. This is to confirm that your new pet has an established relationship with a veterinarian in case of an emergency, or to ensure that your new kitten finishes their vaccination series. If applicable, details will be discussed prior to adoption.
